Salmon is one of those fatty foods that actually benefit your dental health

Today we’ll discuss fantastic foods for your teeth! Dr. Scott Baylin is a cooking sensation and an inspiration, and his cooking videos are the motivation for today’s blog. Food is synonymous with dental health. Typically, dentists warn their patients over and over again about what foods not to eat. However, today we’d like to focus on some foods that won’t impact your dental health adversely. We know that millions of Americans are home, which means that more snacking is happening than ever before. While you’re in quarantine, you should take a bite out of these healthy foods. Read on to learn more.

Fish is Fantastic For Your Dental Health

Fish has a lot of calcium in it. Calcium helps to protect your teeth and gums from various dental diseases. One thing to note is that your body won’t properly absorb calcium if there isn’t enough vitamin D in your system. Salmon and other fatty fishes are an excellent source of vitamin D.

Oranges

Oh, the controversy that comes with oranges. Oranges are citrusy, making them acidic. However, the vitamin C in oranges strengthens blood vessels and slows down the progression of gum tissue because they reduce inflammation. Grapefruits and oranges are okay to have in your fruit bowl from time to time. We advise that you wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after eating citrus fruit. Another thing to note is that if you have sensitive skin, citrusy fruits may not be ideal for you.

Dark Chocolate

We’d never promote any patient overindulging in sweets. But if you crave a sweet treat, then dark chocolate is the decadent dessert that isn’t horrible for your dental health. The CBH compound found in dark chocolate helps to strengthen enamel.

Fruits and Vegetables High in Fiber

High-fiber fruits and vegetables are the next best option if you don’t have a toothbrush handy. The high fiber content has a way of scrubbing your teeth and aiding in saliva production. Saliva helps to break down bacteria. Go for carrots, cucumbers, celery, and apples. Your teeth will thank you, and so will your enamel.
