New Year’s Resolutions For A Healthier Mouth

What are your New Year’s Resolutions?

The New Year is almost here. Out with the old and in with the new, they say! As you start to write out your list of resolutions for 2017, consider putting your dental health on that list as well.

Schedule a Dental Appointment

Have you scheduled your 6 month check up yet? If not, then put it on the list. Take 5 minutes out of your day to call your dentist and make an appointment. The next time you go to your dentist, make the process of rescheduling an appointment easier by booking it before you leave the office.

Start Flossing Regularly

If you’re not a regular flosser, then make flossing part of your list of resolutions. A great way to get into the habit is to keep floss next to your toothbrush or anywhere that you regularly brush your teeth. Floss is small and compact and can fit almost anywhere from your purse to your pocket. Take it with you when you go out to eat with friends or to work.

Reduce Your Sugar Intake

There is a direct link between the amount of sugar a person eats and the amount of tooth decay he or she has. Limiting your sugar intake can reduce your chance of developing cavities. Reducing your sugar intake can also lead to a healthier lifestyle in general, as sugar is directly correlated to obesity and weight gain.

Eat Healthier

The best way to ensure that you’re looking after your health and your teeth is to eat a healthy diet. Dairy products, which are high in calcium, are great for your teeth and fibrous foods are another way to protect your teeth from plaque.
