make your teeth whiter with these at home remedies

In the era of the selfie and people constantly posting pictures of themselves on social media, a bright white smile is a must for most of our society.  People spend over 1 billion dollars a year on over-the-counter products to get rid of yellow teeth stains.  Stop wasting money on products that offer a short fix and turn to items you can find in your refrigerator.  These at home remedies will not only whiten your teeth but offer other benefits to achieve a healthy mouth.

Baking Soda

Used for a variety cleaning methods, baking soda has been used for decades in toothpaste to prevent mouth issues such as cavities and gum disease.  Creating a homemade paste and gently scrubbing those pesky coffee stains can return your teeth to a white shade.  A paste consisting of small but equal parts hydrogen peroxide and baking soda will fight against plaque that stains teeth.  Creating a scrub with strawberries is great to whiten teeth because they are high in vitamin-C which breaks down plaque in the mouth.

Coconut Oil

Okay so this might sound a little odd, but coconut oil has been found to remove plaque that causes your teeth to yellow.  Rinsing your mouth with coconut oil, referred to as “oil pulling”, can result in whiter teeth.  Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 10-20 minutes then rinse with water.  You can do this before and after brushing your teeth.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This natural ingredient is great to fight against stains caused by coffee drinking and cigarette smoking.  The enzymes and acidic compounds found in apple cider vinegar are reported to kill germs in the mouth and break down the plaque that is stuck to teeth.  Brush with apple cider vinegar for daily for at least one month or until you see a result.  After you brush with it make sure to brush with a non-fluoride toothpaste.  Since it is an acid based product, make sure to not brush too hard in order to remove tooth enamel.
