Brush Correctly

Once your child can brush on their own, it is vital that you teach them the proper techniques to brush their teeth.  Your child should brush their teeth and gums gently making sure they clean every area of their mouth.  Teach your child to tilt the bristles of the brush toward the gums and gently brush in small circles.  Once they get all their teeth, they should brush for at least two minutes, but before then they can brush for less.  If they only have a couple of teeth, all they have to do is make sure their teeth and gums and clean.

According to the American Dental Association, you should take your child to see a dentist six months after their first tooth comes in and by the time of their first birthday.  It is vital that you take your child to the dentist when they are a baby to know to know if they are at risk oral health issues.  The dentist can detect any issues and go through the proper steps to prevent anything from worsening.
