The Best Summer Dental Tips
Take a look at our summer dental tips so you can keep those smiles shining bright all summer long.

During summertime, it can feel like all of your other responsibilities melt away. Kids don’t have school and parents get to enjoy the lovely weather as well. As tempting as it may be to let summer become chaos, there are some regimens that need to stay in place. This includes maintaining our dental health which just requires a bit of attention and care. Take a look at our summer dental tips so you can keep those smiles shining bright all summer long.

Maintain Oral Hygiene

While summer may break many of your routines, it’s important that you keep up oral hygiene routines. Our dental tips are all about keeping your teeth healthy, so start with the basics: brush and floss daily, no matter where you might end up on vacation. If you have any toothbrushes older than three months, replace them and while you’re at it, grab some travel-sized oral hygiene items in case you end up going elsewhere.

Eat Healthy Snacks

Since we’re so active during the summer, we tend to have an increased intake of snacks. That’s not necessarily a bad thing at all, but it’s important that you keep your snack stockpile full of healthy snacks including proteins, whole grains, fresh fruits, and plenty of veggies. Avoid processed foods and overly sugary snacks, which can be bad for your teeth and cause other health issues as well. If a sugary snack is a necessity, opt for something like ice cream or frozen yogurt, which at least are less impactful on your teeth as they stick less than candy or cookies.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

You may not have expected hydration to make its way onto a list of dental tips but it’s more important than you’d think, especially during the summer. When we work up a thirst during hotter days, it can be tempting to grab acidic sodas or sugary juices, all of which can cause problems with your teeth. Instead, try to incorporate a reusable water bottle into your life and stick to good old-fashioned water whenever you’re thirsty.

Protect Your Smile

Summer is the perfect time to pick up or practice a sport. All those outdoor activities do increase the chances of hurting your teeth though. Always wear a mouthguard when playing sports and make sure you follow any rules in dangerous areas, like around a pool. Keep an emergency medkit in your car, including everything you might need for a dental injury like gauze, ibuprofen, and your dentist’s contact info.

Go in For a Checkup

We know you’re busy! But nonetheless, it’s always a good idea to schedule a checkup if you haven’t had one in a while. Summer is a good time to do it. Go schedule yours now!
