3 Foods That Do Damage To Your Dental Health

Know what foods avoid so you can have perfect dental health.

Everyone knows that taking care of your teeth and gums is important and that you should strive for exceptional dental health.  It is critical that your brush and floss your teeth every day, but sometimes that isn’t enough to avoid cavities and gum disease.  If you want healthy teeth and gums, you need to be selective and wise regarding what you eat and drink.  There are a few foods that you should avoid eating because they will do serious damage to your dental health.

Citrus Fruits

It is important to have fruits as part of your daily diet, but not all fruits are as beneficial to your health as you might have once thought.  Although citrus fruits such as lemons and grapefruits are high in vitamin C, they contain acids that can erode and damage your tooth enamel.  So, these fruits can lead to cavities and other teeth issues.  You should reconsider putting a lemon in your water next time you are thirsty.

Sugary Drinks

Most people know that they should limit their intake of sugar, but they don’t realize that beverages are usually the items that have the highest sugar content.  Next time you need something to drink, avoid picking up a soda, energy drink, or a sports drink.  These beverages are highly acidic and can cause tooth erosion and cavities.  Even though sports and energy drink are labeled to have many benefits, they are detrimental to your dental health.

Hard Foods

It is critical that you avoid eating foods that are hard in texture like candies and ice.  The last thing you want to do is bite down a hard candy or ice and then chip your tooth.  Hard candies are also full of sugar so they will lead to cavities and other dental issues.  With ice, you should avoid eating it and just drink water which is much safer for your mouth.
