Do I Need Teeth Whitening?

Teeth-whitening

Teeth Whitening can be an incredible, life-changing experience.

One of the most popular questions we receive at Leikin and Baylin Dental Care is whether a patient should get a teeth whitening treatment – whether teeth whitening is dangerous, whether it should be done at home at home, whether veneers are a better option and, by far the most popular, how much teeth whitening costs. At Leikin and Baylin, we’re here to help. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about whitening.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a treatment to reduce and eliminate stains on your teeth. Over the years, a lot of things can cause teeth stains. Wine, cigarettes, soda, coffee and more will darken the enamel on your teeth.

Do I Need to Whiten My Teeth?

Teeth whitening is usually an elective procedure, meaning you may not need to whiten your teeth. People choose to whiten their teeth for many reasons: preparing for an event like a wedding where lots of photos will be taken, a new crown or implant doesn’t match their teeth, trying to make a good impression at work or many other reasons. But we’re here to help you make that decision!

Can Teeth Whitening at Home Work for Me?

We recommend home bleaching as a part of any whitening treatment. We think that a combination of home bleaching and office bleaching achieves the best results for our patients.

Is Teeth Whitening Better Than Veneers?

That depends on your preferences. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are applied to the front surface of your teeth in order to alter their appearance. Veneers are more expensive than bleaching treatment, but they are longer-lasting, don’t require repeat visits and can improve your smile in more ways than fixing discoloration. Schedule a visit today for a consultation and learn whether bleaching or veneers are the best teach whitening treatment for you.

Should I Use Laser Whitening Treatments?

No. These whitening treatments use similar materials to regular home or office bleaching. There is no proof that using UV light (the so-called “laser”) during the whitening process speeds up or improves teeth whitening. In fact, the UV light could damage your teeth or your eyes.

Will I Need to Whiten My Teeth Again?

Yes. Although the color change made during the treatment is permanent, it doesn’t stop the aging process (and you’ll probably still need your morning coffee). Whitened teeth will continue to stain.
